A drilled well is one of the best tools for obtaining water, and more and more people are having wells due to the great need for drinking water. Even so, many people neglect their wells, often damaging them in the process.

In many communities, there are water wells that are already lost, even though there are people who lack access to this vital natural resource and would love to have that source of water. If you have a damaged well, you should be aware of the consequences of leaving it in that condition.

Why You Should Care About Properly Maintaining Your Well

It is important that you take care of your water well because if you don't, you will lose your source of drinking water and that will cause you many problems.

One of the problems is that we could lose our source of drinking water and also be unable to use it for other basic purposes like showering or washing clothes. For these and many other reasons, it's important to take care of your water well and give it proper maintenance once a year to ensure you always get quality water.

What are the consequences you will face?

One of the consequences of an uninspected water well is contamination, which means it can no longer be used as a water source or for industrial purposes. This is one of the main reasons why so many wells are abandoned.

Another consequence of not inspecting and maintaining a well is that more energy is needed to supply water. This can be because the water quality is no longer good or because it is contaminated. These factors cause a city to experience water stress; among the consequences are higher electricity costs and reduced economic competitiveness.

Another major consequence is the complete lack of access to drinking water. As sad as it sounds, without proper maintenance, wells will be unable to provide potable water for various essential activities.

Recommendations for Keeping Your Well in Optimal Condition

  • Clean around your well regularly.
  • Make sure the pump is suitable for your well.
  • Install a filter on the power supply or around the pump motor, as it can damage it if it is not suitable.
  • Keep paths clear of large rocks and other obstacles to facilitate access when repair or maintenance is needed.
  • Cover the openings with airtight lids, glass, or other shock-resistant materials.
  • Make sure not to place foreign objects (such as cables) through the water supply because they can easily damage and break it.
