San Vicente del Coyolito: Water Well Drilling & On-Site Training with Engineers Without Borders

The Challenge
The community of San Vicente del Coyolito, in La Concordia, Jinotega, faced limited access to a reliable and sufficient water source. Engineers Without Borders — an organization with deep experience running community infrastructure projects worldwide — brought HydroLOGICA in as their drilling partner to help close that gap.
But this project had a second goal beyond the well itself: Engineers Without Borders wanted their own team to walk away with hands-on drilling supervision experience, not just a finished project report.
Our Approach
As with every HydroLOGICA project, work began with a feasibility study and planning phase to confirm the site's groundwater potential before committing to full-scale drilling — protecting the project's budget and timeline from the start.

What set this project apart was how it was staffed: rather than drilling independently, HydroLOGICA carried out the studies and drilling process directly alongside the Engineers Without Borders team, training them in drilling supervision as the work progressed. That meant on-site instruction in the same core areas covered in HydroLOGICA's formal training curriculum — things like site assessment, technical reporting, quality assurance, and safety compliance — applied in real time to a live project rather than a classroom exercise.

Why This Project Matters
San Vicente del Coyolito is one of the clearest examples of how HydroLOGICA works: we don't just drill a well and leave — we train the people around us to multiply what one project can accomplish. For a partner like Engineers Without Borders, that means their team now carries drilling supervision experience into every future project they take on, well beyond this single well.
It's the same philosophy behind HydroLOGICA's dedicated Drilling Supervision Training Program and international consulting services — hands-on, in-the-field training that builds lasting local and partner capacity, not just a one-time deliverable.
