Answers to the questions we hear most often from NGOs and nonprofits considering a water well drilling project — before, during, and after the work itself.
Where does HydroLOGICA drill water wells?
HydroLOGICA drills water wells directly in Nicaragua, where our team is based in Managua. Our training and consulting services extend internationally, but hands-on drilling is currently a Nicaragua-based service.
Does HydroLOGICA work directly with NGOs, or only through local partners?
Directly. We've partnered with NGOs including Engineers Without Borders on completed projects, handling everything from feasibility studies through drilling and, when needed, on-site training for the partner's own team.
What's included in a typical water well drilling project?
Every project starts with a feasibility study to confirm groundwater potential, followed by drilling and pump installation. Scope can expand to include inspection and rehabilitation of existing wells, or on-site training for your team.
Why does HydroLOGICA start with a feasibility study?
Drilling without first confirming groundwater potential risks committing a project's budget to a well that underperforms or fails. A feasibility study protects that investment before any drilling equipment arrives on site.
How long does a water well drilling project take?
It depends on site conditions, depth, and the scope agreed in your project's Terms of Reference. Your HydroLOGICA contact can give you a project-specific timeline once the feasibility study is complete.
Can HydroLOGICA train our team during the project?
Yes. On a past project with Engineers Without Borders, our team carried out the drilling process directly alongside the partner's staff, training them in drilling supervision as the work progressed. This can be scoped into future projects on request.
What happens if a well doesn't produce enough water?
This is exactly what the feasibility study is designed to prevent. Specific performance terms and remedies should be defined in your project's Terms of Reference before drilling begins — our team can help you draft one.
Does HydroLOGICA provide documentation we can use for donor reporting?
Yes. Projects are documented with data such as water output, estimated people served, and services performed — the kind of information funders typically expect in impact reporting.
Does HydroLOGICA offer support after a well is completed?
Our Well Inspection & Rehabilitation service covers post-completion monitoring, diagnosis, and repair if a well's performance changes over time.
How do we start a project with HydroLOGICA?
Contact our team to discuss your project. We'll typically begin by scoping a feasibility study for your site.
